B2V worked with 500 farming households in Saran district to build awareness and practical capacity in organic vegetable cultivation, addressing both the knowledge gap around chemical-free methods and the market access gap that typically prevents organic adoption from becoming economically viable. Training and capacity building covered organic farming fundamentals, input preparation, and crop management, grounding participants in methods appropriate for smallholder vegetable production in Bihar's agro-climatic conditions.
A primary processing centre was established as part of the programme, creating a post-harvest facility that could clean, grade, and prepare produce for market. This is a deliberate structural investment: without basic processing infrastructure, organic vegetable farmers are forced to sell at farm gate prices that rarely reflect the premium their produce could command. By building processing capacity within the community, the programme created the conditions for better price realisation and more consistent buyer relationships.
The programme reached 500 farming households within a single operating year, making it one of B2V's faster-paced deployments by beneficiary count. The combination of training, processing infrastructure, and market linkage within one programme cycle reflects a matured understanding of what it takes to make organic transition economically sustainable for smallholders, not just agronomically possible.
This is also B2V's first documented NABARD engagement and its entry into Bihar as an operational geography. The programme demonstrates that B2V's agricultural model, built primarily in Odisha and Jharkhand, translates to a new state with a different farming context. The NABARD relationship established here almost certainly contributed to the two larger NABARD programmes sanctioned for 2024 to 2027 in Odisha and Jharkhand.
