This website is run by Back to Village (B2V), a society registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Reg. No. 23767/01), with its office at 2nd Floor, 24/C, Seema Shri Park, Road D-1, Road No. 1, Ashok Nagar, Ranchi – 834002, Jharkhand.

By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

Some of our documents, RFPs, and events carry their own terms. Where those differ from these, the specific ones apply.

1. Using this site

This site is here to share our research and to let people reach us. It isn't a place to buy anything.

Please use it lawfully. Don't try to break into it, upload anything harmful, scrape it at a scale that slows it down, pretend to be someone you're not, or use it in a way that suggests we endorse you when we don't.

We can restrict access if these terms are broken.

2. Using our research

We want our work to be used. Replication is the point.

Unless a document says otherwise, our case studies, insights, research papers, policy briefs, and replication frameworks are available under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence. You can copy, share, and adapt them if you:

• Credit Back to Village (B2V) and link back where you can

• Use them non-commercially

• Share anything you build on the same terms

• Don't imply we endorse you

Government departments, NGOs, CSR teams, and researchers wanting to replicate our models are welcome to. Need different terms, including commercial use? Write to us.

Not covered by that licence: our name and logo, photographs of people, documentation of traditional knowledge, third-party material, and any dataset with personal details in it.

Cite us as: Back to Village (B2V), [Title], [Year], [URL].

3. Photos of the people in our work

The farmers and artisans in our photographs agreed to appear in B2V's materials, for B2V's purposes. That consent doesn't extend to you.

So please don't reuse images of identifiable people from this site in your own reports, fundraising, marketing, or social media; don't use them commercially; don't recaption or crop them in ways that misrepresent someone; and don't use them to train AI systems.

Need imagery for a joint report or press coverage? Ask us. We'll seek permission where we can reach the person, and say no where we can't.

4. Traditional knowledge

Where we document traditional practices, crafts, seed varieties, or ecological knowledge, that knowledge belongs to the communities that hold it. Writing it down doesn't make it ours, and publishing it doesn't make it free for the taking.

You must not use anything on this site to commercialise a traditional practice without the holding community's consent, or to file a patent, GI, or design registration over it.

Work touching biological resources or associated traditional knowledge is governed by the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. Talk to us, and to the relevant Biodiversity Management Committee or State Biodiversity Board, first.

5. What our research can and can't tell you

Our findings come from specific villages, soils, rainfall patterns, markets, and institutions. They may not hold elsewhere.

Our replication frameworks are starting points that need local adaptation, not guarantees. We publish what fails as well as what works, so a documented intervention isn't necessarily a recommended one. And information is accurate as at its publication date.

Nothing here is agronomic, financial, veterinary, legal, or professional advice. Talk to qualified local advisors and extension officers before making farming or investment decisions. We're not liable for what happens if you don't.

6. Getting in touch about partnerships

Filling in a form doesn't create a partnership or oblige us to anything.

We try to reply to everyone but can't promise to. Any collaboration only becomes real through a written agreement signed by an authorised person at B2V — not through emails, meetings, or presentations. We may decline a proposal without giving reasons.

7. RFPs

When we publish an RFP, along with whatever that document says:

• It's an invitation to bid, not a promise to award anything

• We can accept or reject any or all bids, or cancel the process, without giving reasons

• You cover your own bidding costs

• Be accurate. Misrepresenting your experience, capacity, or registrations gets you disqualified.

• Tell us about any conflict of interest, including any connection to our staff, board, or funders

• Canvassing means disqualification

• We keep your submission confidential, and you keep the IP in your proposal

• We never charge a fee to participate

8. Jobs, fellowships, and volunteering

Applying doesn't create an offer. Anything real comes as a written contract or appointment letter. Field placements may need background checks.

We never charge a fee at any stage of recruitment. Not for jobs, not for internships, not for volunteering. Ever.

9. Donations

Where we accept donations:

• We use them for our charitable work. If you designate a programme that's already funded or has closed, we'll move it to something comparable and tell you.

• 80G certificates are issued under the Income Tax Act, once you give us the required details including PAN

• Foreign contributions go only into our designated FCRA account, under the FCRA, 2010. They must not be routed anywhere else.

• Donations are generally non-refundable. Duplicate or mistaken payment? Write to us within [15] days and we'll refund it to the original method.

• Payments run through third-party gateways under their terms. We're not liable for their failures.

• We can decline or return a contribution.

10. Watch out for fraud

People misuse the names of development organisations. So, clearly:

• We never ask for payment or fees for jobs, internships, training, volunteering, or RFPs

• We never ask for donations by private message, personal UPI, or a personal bank account

• Our only domain is backtovillage.org, and our only email addresses end in @backtovillage.org

If something claiming to be us doesn't match this, don't pay. Tell us at contact@backtovillage.org.

11. Anything you send us

Comments, suggestions, and feedback sent through the site are treated as non-confidential, and we may use them freely. Proposals, job applications, and personal data are handled separately, under the relevant section above and our Privacy Policy.

Please don't send confidential information through general contact forms.

12. Links, logos, and other people's views

We link to partners, funders, government portals, and press coverage. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for them. A link isn't an endorsement.

Partner logos on our site show that we work together. They don't mean those organisations endorse our findings.

Views in guest posts and insights belong to the named author, not necessarily to B2V, our board, or our funders.

You're welcome to link to any page here — just don't imply an association that doesn't exist, use our logo without asking, or frame our site inside yours.

13. What we can't promise

The site is provided as is. We can't guarantee it will always be available, error-free, or secure, and we may change or take down parts of it without notice.

We take care to get things right, but if you spot an error, tell us and we'll fix it.

To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses — including lost profit, revenue, crop, data, or opportunity — arising from your use of this site. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited.

If you breach these terms or misuse our content — especially photographs of community members or documented traditional knowledge — you agree to cover any resulting claims against us.

14. Complaints

We acknowledge complaints within 48 hours and aim to resolve them within 30 days.

15. Changes and legal bits

We may update these terms. The version on this page, dated at the top, is the current one. Continuing to use the site means you accept it.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. If we don't enforce something once, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later.

These terms are governed by Indian law.
